The band was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Matthew Campbell on Saturday 21st of May.
Matthew joined the learners' section of the band in 1962 and in 1965 he was part of a schools’ quartet who won the Scottish Schools’ Quartet Championship playing along with other members of Croy Band. Matthew left the band for a few years to help his beloved wife Mary raise his three children Susannah, Caroline and Thomas. Unfortunately, Matthew lost his son Thomas to cancer in 2020 at the young age of 39. Sadly, Mary died suddenly on the 18th of March 2022. |
Matthew helped the band playing in various positions including Solo Horn, Solo Euphonium and E♭ Bass. However, his true love was as a horn player where Matthew’s unforced sweet sound was a joy to listen to. Matthew brought not only his playing to the band but also a delightful mixture of humour and mischief that lightened many a band rehearsal. A lovely gentleman he was always quietly ready to lend a hand with things: helping sort music, carrying equipment, maintaining instruments.
9th May - Spring Concert The band made a long-awaited return to performing with a Spring Concert in Holy Cross Chapel in Croy. Our varied entertainment programme included a mix of band favourites and newly discovered pieces. It was lovely to be able to perform for an audience again and we were so pleased to see a good turn out on a wet Monday evening. Our thanks to Holy Cross Chapel for helping to make this concert possible. Photographs Video |
14th March - Civic Recognition The band had a lovely evening at The Coachman Hotel, hosted by The Provost, in recognition of the band's contributions to the local community and our Third Section win at the Scottish Championships in March 2020. Photographs |
