Christmas Carols
Tesco once again allowed us space in the foyer to play several sessions of carols for passing shoppers.

We also played for the annual Christmas Carol Service at Burngreen in Kilsyth, organised by the Kilsyth Rotary Club.

17th December - Campfires In Winter
We started our Christmas carolling season as special guests of the band "Campfires in Winter" at their Christmas party at Sloan's Ballroom in Glasgow.

13th December - Christmas Concert
A big thank you to everyone who packed into the hall at Holy Cross in Croy for our annual joint concert with Croy Male Voice Choir.

Wedding Bells
On Saturday 2nd August, we braved all the wind and rain that Dundee could throw at us to help Elaine celebrate her special day on board the RRS Discovery. We wish Elaine and Chris every happiness.

We also wish all the best to Diane and her new husband, Dean, who also got married in August.

28th April - Kilsyth Rotary Club Pensioners’ Concert
On Monday 28th April, St. Patrick's Hall in Kilsyth was filled with the sound of live music and a happy audience.  The band performed a wide selection of light music and everyone enjoyed the tea, coffee and cakes that followed.  Well done James, James and Rebecca, who were playing in their first concert with the main band.

9th March - Scottish Championships at Perth
Our rendition of "Cry of the Mountain" in the First Section at the Scottish Regionals seemed to be well-received by the audience. Reviewers at 4barsrest.com felt that we played an "excellent opening" and that we "could still figure". Despite our efforts, however, we were placed only tenth.

20th February - An Evening of Brass Music
In our annual joint venture with Barrhead Burgh Band, we took part in the East Renfrewshire Instrumental Music Service "Evening of Brass Music".  The concert, held at Carlibar Primary School, also featured the young people of East Renfrewshire Schools' Brass Ensemble and Levern Valley Community Brass.  All bands combined to play "Oh, Happy Day" and "Liberty Bell" for a rousing finale.​

December - Christmas Carols
We enjoyed playing several sessions of carols for the shoppers at Tesco, Craigmarloch and for the carol evening at Burngreen in Kilsyth.

A big thank you to all who came along to listen and to support us and thank you to Tesco for accommodating us in the foyer.

​​14th December - Christmas Concert
This year, the annual concert with Croy Male Voice Choir took place at Holy Cross Primary School.  There was the usual festive mix of entertainment, friends and refreshments.  Photographs

8th December - Festival of Light Carol Service
The band provided music for the Cumbernauld Festival of Light Carol Service held, this year, at the Sacred Heart Church.  There were also performances by the Columban Singers; the St. Margaret of Scotland Primary School choir; and flautist, Siobhan Smith.

29th April - Pensioners' Concert, Kilsyth Rotary Club
The band enjoyed a return invitation to provide the entertainment at a concert for local pensioners, organised by the Kilsyth Rotary Club.  Kilsyth's Masonic Hall was filled with a happy mixture of local people, fine refreshments and good music.

10th March - Scottish Championships
During our performance of the First Section piece, Brass Triumphant (by Gareth Wood), the adjudicators noted sections of "good dynamic contrast" and "good rhythmic energy".  We were placed 8th out of 10 bands.

4th March - Women's Guild Concert
The band was delighted to be asked to provide the entertainment for the Women's Guild Closing Concert at Kilsyth Burns and Old Parish Church.  The Youth Brass started the evening with a popular selection including the James Bond Theme, Singing in the Rain and Love Changes Everything.  The main band continued in similar style including favourites "Swinging Safari" and "Eleanor Rigby".
7th February - An Evening of Brass Music
On 7th February, we joined forces with Barrhead Burgh Band to take part in an Evening of Brass Music.  This event, organised by East Renfrewshire Instrumental Music Service, also featured the young people of East Renfrewshire Schools' Brass Ensemble and Levern Valley Community Brass.

December - Christmas Activities
The band enjoyed performing at a number of annual events in the run up to Christmas.  These included the Festival of Light Service, the Carol Concert at Burngreen and several sessions of carols at Tesco in Craigmarloch - thank you to Tesco for allowing us the opportunity to play in the foyer.

​2nd December - Scottish Challenge Shield
The band took part in the Scottish Challenge Shield at Perth Concert Hall, playing "Academic Festival Overture". Up against a very strong field, the band played well on the day however tuning issues resulted in the band being placed much lower down the field than was hoped prior to the contest.  The band was placed 9th overall.

22nd September - National Championships (Cheltenham)
The band was very happy with their performance of "Academic Festival Overture" (Brahms), which was awarded 8th place.  We were competing against sixteen other bands, all of which had qualified through their own regional finals.

​16th June - Duntreath Castle
The band provided a programme of light entertainment for all those who braved the wind and rain to attend the Duntreath Castle Garden Show.

11th June - Kilsyth Civic Week
Kilsyth Community Church played host to our annual appearance at Kilsyth Civic Week. 
Our light programme was well-received by the audience, which included the Civic Week Queen.

9th & 10th June - CD Recording
The band spent the weekend recording a selection of pieces for a CD to be released later in the year.  It was great to have so many of our friends along to play with us and we hope they had as good a time as we did.  Special thanks to Adam Craig, our Sound Engineer, and to James Finnigan, our photographer.
1st June - Race Night
A big thank you to everyone who came along to support our Race Night on Friday 1st June.  It was a good night out and also raised money for the band.
20th May - G52 Churches "Songs of Praise"
The band helped to provide music for the Songs of Praise celebration at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Cardonald.  The event, compered by Michelle McManus, also included the Motherwell Diocesan Choir and several instrumental soloists.

​19th May - An Evening of Brass (Cumbernauld Theatre)

The programme was opened by Croy Youth Brass, with a short selection of popular music including "Kids Go Rock" and "Rocky".  The Senior Band performed a variety of old and new favourites, including soloists from the trombone and bass sections.  The combined forces of the Youth Brass and the Senior Band completed the show with "The Magic of the Beatles".

Scottish Coal Industry Special Welfare Fund Grant
We are pleased to announce that the band has been successful in securing a grant of £1,000 from the Scottish Coal Industry Special Welfare Fund (SCISWF) towards the cost of the band competing at the National Championships in September. The band would like to thank the SCISWF for this generous donation and continued support.
23rd April - Pensioners' Concert, Kilsyth Rotary Club
The band played to a receptive and appreciative audience in Kilsyth's Masonic Hall.  The concert, organised by the Kilsyth Rotary Club, provided an evening of entertainment to the pensioners of Kilsyth. The band played a one hour programme and struck up a friendly relationship with the audience, performing a variety of music for their enjoyment.  The band enjoyed "tea" and a chance to mingle with the audience.  The band thanks the Kilsyth Rotary Club for the invitation and we look forward to performing for them again some time in the future.
​21st April - Fife Brass Band Festival
The band played a programme of four pieces: "Cortege from Mlada", "'Mid All The Traffic", "Tuba Mukl" and "An American Trilogy".  We gave a "competent and confident" performance which was well-received by the audience.  We were place third.

​​10th March - Scottish Championships    * WINNERS *
The band triumphed at Rothes Hall, winning the Second Section of the Scottish Championships.
According to the adjudicators, our performance featured "good dynamics and rhythmic playing" and "some really top class playing".

9th February - An Evening of Brass (East Renfrewshire Music)
The band joined forces with Barrhead Burgh Band to appear in "An Evening of Brass" at Carlibar Primary School.  Also on the programme were Levern Valley Community Brass, the East Renfrewshire Brass Quintet and the East Renfrewshire Brass Ensemble.  To end the evening, all of the brass groups combined to play "YMCA" and "Rocky" to the large and appreciative audience.  Visit the Videos page to hear clips from the concert.

19th December - Kilsyth Carol Concert
Senior band members and youth band members turned out to play at the annual Christmas Carol Concert at the Burngreen Bandstand in Kilsyth. The event, compered once again by Kilsyth’s own Harry Dempsey, saw the band lead a large crowd in the singing of a variety of Christmas Carols for just under an hour.  Afterwards, hot soup and drinks were made available to everyone who attended the event.

We braved the cold to play three sessions of Christmas Carols at Tesco, Craigmarloch.

Coalfields Regeneration Trust Grant
The band is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant of £10,000 by The Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT).  This is the second time that the band has secured funding from the CRT and the band would like to convey their thanks to the CRT for this generous award and their ongoing support.  The money will be used to replace existing percussion equipment, provide training to both Senior and Youth bands as well as allowing the band to obtain new concert uniforms.

11th December - Festival of Light Carol Service
The band is pleased to have been able to again support the Festival of Light service, held this year at Cornerstone House.

There were also performances by Whitelees Primary School Choir, the Cumbernauld Gaelic Choir and the Cornerstone Praise Band.

​2nd December - Christmas Concert
Croy Miners' Welfare was packed for this year's Christmas Concert held in conjunction with the Croy Miners' Male Voice Choir.  The audience was treated to a variety of pieces by the Youth Brass, the band and the choir and a tasty buffet at the interval.

​5th November - Borders Entertainment Contest     * Best Entertainment *
The band had a great time in Langholm, playing a short programme of five pieces: "Gaudete", "Georgia On My Mind", "Galop", "Pastorale" and "Parade of the Charioteers".  We came third, being narrowly beaten for second place, but we were awarded the prize for Best Entertainment.

​It is with great sadness and regret that members of the Croy Silver Band announce the death of Peter Paterson, after a prolonged illness, on Tuesday 13th September 2011.

Peter was a stalwart of the band, having served both as a player and member for over 60 years.  He will be greatly missed.

13th June - Civic Week
On Monday 13th June, the Youth Brass and the Main Band performed a concert as part of Kilsyth Civic Week.  Inclement weather meant that the concert took place at Kilsyth Community Church, rather than at the bandstand.

4th June - Summer Concert
An appreciative audience turned up to the band's annual summer concert on Saturday 4th June.  The evening began with the Youth Brass, who played three numbers (with John Maley appearing as guest conductor).  The main band performed two sets during the evening - a mixture of new and old pieces - and local singer, Pat Canavan, provided additional entertainment.

​8th May - St. Andrew's Cathedral

On Sunday 8th May, the band took part in "St Andrew and a Catena of Cathedral Saints" at Saint Andrew's Cathedral in Glasgow.

16th April - Fife Brass Band Festival
The band performed a short programme at the Festival, held in the Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline.  The pieces played were: "Valero", "Georgia On My Mind", "Galop", "Ticket To Ride" and "Parade of the Charioteers".
13th April - Concert with the Columban Singers
The band shared the stage with the Columban Singers for their concert at Kilsyth Academy.  There was a wide variety of music and styles to be heard and also seen - with Ken in his "coat of many colours"!  These were enjoyed by an enthusiastic audience and money raised from the concert is to benefit two local charities.
24th March - Concert at Kenmuir Church
On Thursday 24th March, the band played a concert at Kenmuir Church in Mount Vernon.  The audience was entertained with around a dozen pieces.  At the interval, there was a chance for all to mingle and chat while enjoying the delightful spread of refreshments provided by the church.
​26th February - Scottish Championships
The band was pleased to be awarded 5th place in the Second Section at the Scottish Championships at Perth Concert Hall in February.  According to the adjudicators, the performance of "Resurgam" (Eric Ball) was "an enjoyable performance with much to commend it" and the band "produced some excellent moments with good shape and style".
15th January - Christmas Concert
On 15th January, the band took part in a "Christmas concert" (postponed from December) and alternated sets with the Croy Miners Male Voice Choir.  It was an enjoyable evening with a variety of music, a lovely buffet and lots of smiles.  Special thanks to our visiting players from other bands who came to give us a hand.

December
Unfortunately, bad weather caused the cancellation of some of our concerts.  However, we were able to brave the snow and icy winds for three sessions of Christmas Carols outside Tesco in Craigmarloch. Our efforts were much appreciated and well rewarded by shoppers.
6th November - Borders Contest, 2nd Place
At the Scottish Borders Brass Band Association contest, the band performed a fifteen minute programme of five pieces.  The band came 2nd overall, with Grant Golding (Soprano) winning the Best Soloist Trophy for "Demelza".
21st October - United Reformed Church
The band performed a programme of popular pieces for a small but enthusiastic audience at the United Reformed Church in Cumbernauld.
2nd October - FCBA Open Contest
The band took part in the Fife Charities Band Association Annual Open contest on Saturday 2nd October.  The programme consisted of a march (Ravenswood), a hymn (Dear Lord and Father of Mankind) and a test piece (Royal Parks).  We were placed 10th out of 16 bands, with Fiona Devlin (Cornet) receiving the Youngest Player Trophy.

16th September - Papal Visit
Members of Croy Silver Band and Shotts St Patricks Brass Band combined to play at Bellahouston Park during the visit of Pope Benedict XVI.  The combined band played special arrangements of hymns, accompanying the Papal Choir.  ​Photographs

The band performed at a number of events during June including: a concert at the Miners' Home in Culross, our annual summer concert at the Miners' Welfare in Croy (Photographs), Kilsyth Civic Week, and the re-opening of the bandstand in Kilsyth.

13th November - A Night of Celebration
Friday 13th November saw a very important night for Croy Silver Band with four members receiving recognition for life membership to the Scottish Brass Band Association and Croy Silver Band. The band gave an excellent varied programme featuring excellent solo performances from Jennifer Aitken on Trombone, Jim O'Donnell on Cornet and Graeme Currie as Flugel Soloist in a moving rendition of the solo that, a few years ago, won Tommy Bolan Best Soloist Award.

The evening was brought to close with the vocal talents of Pat Canavan and the band would like to thank Tom Allan and Andy Smith from the SBBA for making the presentations on the night.
