2nd November - Borders Entertainment Concert
We were drawn first to play in the Borders Entertainment Contest in Kelso. For our 15-minute programme, we played: Bandology, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, Cavalleria Rusticana, Eleanor Rigby and Galop. Our performance was well-received and we were placed 8th overall. Video excerpt |

Christmas Carols
The band rounded off the year with several carolling sessions at local stores and also provided music for the Carol Service and Mass at Holy Cross Chapel in Croy on Christmas Eve. A big thank you to the stores who are allowed us to play for their customers this year:

On Saturday 17th November, the band played carols for the visitors to Abronhill Christmas Fayre and on Sunday 18th November, we helped welcome Santa to Dobbies Garden World in Stirling. Thank you to both of these organisations for hosting us.

The band played at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, opening their series of Atrium Concerts. We entertained patients, staff and visitors with a variety of light music.

The band was at Holy Cross in Croy to provide music for the "Solemn Dedication" of the church building, opened 60 years ago in September 1958.

12th August - Steam Fair Weekend at Summerlee We performed two half-hour sets to entertain visitors to the Steam Fair Weekend at Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life. The audience took advantage of shelter from the rain outside to listen to a variety of light music including Floral Dance, Bugler’s Holiday and Eleanor Rigby. 8th July - Stanrigg Miners' Memorial Service The band would like to thank Peter Downie and the Stanrigg Colliery Memorial Committee for their kind invitation to play at the memorial service held on Sunday 8th July in Plains, Airdrie. The service was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the pit disaster at Stanrigg Colliery when nineteen miners tragically lost their lives whilst working down the mine. A large crowd, including local dignitaries, representatives of the national Union of Miners, North Lanarkshire Council and the Scottish Coal Industry Special Welfare Fund (SCISWF) were in attendance to pay their respects to the miners. It is with deepest regret that the band has to announce the sad passing of John McAtee.
It is with deepest regret that the band has to announce the sad passing of John McAtee.
Player, Life Member and Band President John was a lifetime member of the band. He served the band both as a player and committee member for many years. He worked tirelessly on behalf of the band and was the Band President for 40 years. John passed away peacefully on Saturday 10th March 2018 in Strathcarron Hospice whilst surrounded by his family. He was a true bandsman, gent and friend. He will be sorely missed. |

24th April - Kilsyth Rotary Club Pensioners' Concert The band enjoyed a return invitation to provide the entertainment at a concert for local pensioners, organised by the Kilsyth Rotary Club. We performed a wide selection of light music to an appreciative audience and were treated to tea, coffee and cakes at the interval. The band would like to thank Kilsyth Rotary Club for their kind donation towards band funds and for providing photographs of the event. |

On Saturday, 11th March, the band competed in the Scottish Championships. This year's test piece was Dean Goffin's "Rhapsody In Brass". Our performance was well received by the audience and those reviewing online. Unfortunately this was not echoed in the adjudicators' scoring and we were placed 8th.

23rd February - An Evening of Brass Music
Joining forces with Barrhead Burgh Band, we took part in the annual "Evening of Brass Music" alongside the young people of East Renfrewshire Schools' Brass Ensemble and Levern Valley Community Brass. This year's massed band finale pieces were "Zurich March" and "Kraken".

The band played a selection of marches at family Open Day, welcoming people to the event which was held at at Croy Bowling Club.

24th September - Fife Charities Brass Band Contest This open contest included bands from all sections; each band being required to choose a march, a hymn and a test piece. We were placed 5th for our march (Centaur), 8th for our hymn (Cor Jesu) and 9th for our choice of test piece (Cross Patonce). Congratulations to the winning bands. Photographs Video |
18th September - Burns and Old Parish Church The band provided music for the Songs of Praise service celebrating the Bicentennial Anniversary of Kilsyth Burns and Old Parish Church. Thank you to the church for providing us with photographs of the event. |

Poor weather meant that we were unable to play on the bandstand, but we were welcomed into the Community Church, where we were able to give a short and varied concert for a small but enthusiastic audience.

The band was pleased with the performance of Philip Harper's "The Mermaid of Zennor", being placed fifth of eleven bands. The adjudicators noted "nice balance" and "liked the overall feeling of the music".

The band had an enjoyable evening listening to, playing for and playing alongside the young brass players from East Renfrewshire. The first half of the evening featured pieces from Levern Valley Community Brass and from the East Renfrewshire Schools' Brass Ensemble. The second half included a variety of popular pieces played by the combined forces of Croy Silver Band and Barrhead Burgh Band, followed by a massed band piece: "The Raiders' March".

National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain - 19th September A big thank you to everyone who supported us at Cheltenham, whether in person or from a distance. Scottish Coal Industry Social Welfare Fund Grant
The band has been awarded a grant of £1,000 from the Scottish Coal Industry Social Welfare Fund (SCISWF) towards the cost of competing at the National Championships in September. We would like to thank the SCISWF for this generous donation and continued support.

23rd May - Summer Concert The band held a fund-raising concert in the Holy Cross Parochial Hall to entertain the local community and to help raise funds for the forthcoming trip to the National Brass Band Championships in Cheltenham. 26th February - An Evening of Brass Music We joined forces with Barrhead Burgh Band to play in the annual Evening of Brass Music, organised by East Renfrewshire Instrumental Music Service. This annual event brings together brass music in East Renfrewshire schools and the local brass band community.
